Rebuilt in Christ

A Step-by-Step Guide to Mental Health Through Scripture

Adam Brett Lowery

You have examined what you believe. What will you build on now?

Our experiences influence the way we understand ourselves, other people, and the world. Those interpretations can become familiar enough to feel unquestionable. But familiarity does not make a belief true, and a painful experience does not make every conclusion drawn from it permanent.

Rebuilt in Christ begins with a different foundation: truth is found in Christ and revealed in Scripture. Our perceptions can be mistaken. Our understanding can grow. Our beliefs and responses can be examined and corrected.

Drawing on the practical framework introduced in The Cognitive Rampage, Adam Brett Lowery revisits the principles and tools of change through a Christian understanding of truth, forgiveness, humility, purpose, and renewal.

Practical tools. A biblical foundation.

The book retains contemporary psychological language while placing its applications under the authority of Scripture. Readers work through core beliefs, the relationship between beliefs and behavior, humility and learning, and the connection between competence, confidence, and enthusiasm.

Those principles lead into practical exercises: Rational Self-Analysis, a written Life Philosophy, an Interest-to-Enthusiasm Inventory, and an Authentic Routine.

These tools help organize reflection and action. They do not replace Scripture or carry its authority.

What you will work through

Examine your core beliefs

Identify the assumptions shaping how you interpret yourself, others, your circumstances, and God.

Evaluate the sentences you live by

Notice absolute language, separate events from interpretations, and examine your conclusions in light of evidence and Scripture read in context.

Rewrite with truth

Develop replacement statements that are honest and grounded. The goal is not relentless positivity or denying painful realities.

Build your Life Philosophy

Bring examined beliefs together into a written guide for daily decisions, remaining willing to correct your understanding as you learn.

Practice faithful action

Move from reflection into manageable choices, habits, responsibilities, and routines. Change involves practice, not merely a better sentence.

Reconsider forgiveness and purpose

Explore forgiveness without confusing it with automatic reconciliation, and approach purpose through faithfulness rather than pressure to discover one perfect calling.

From asking why to practicing what

Asking why can help reveal what you believe. But reflection can also become a circle that never reaches action.

This book introduces another question: What would a faithful response look like now?

That question does not require you to explain every hardship or claim certainty about why God allowed it. It invites humility, learning, and a practical next step.

An invitation to read Scripture for yourself

You do not need an extensive biblical background to use this book. Scripture references throughout the chapters invite you to read the passages, consider their context, and examine how they apply.

All direct Bible quotations use the King James Version. The exercises and explanations are applications to consider, not additions to Scripture.

What changed from The Cognitive Rampage?

Rebuilt in Christ is a substantial revision of the earlier work. It removes the extended personal narrative and addiction-treatment commentary to concentrate on the principles and tools of change.

The central revision concerns truth. Human perception remains open to examination, but perception no longer serves as the final standard. Scripture provides the foundation against which beliefs and applications are evaluated.

Relevant psychological contributions remain appropriately credited. The book distinguishes those contributions from its Christian interpretations and practical exercises.

About the author

RETIRED THERAPIST. CHRIST FOLLOWER. SAVED.

Adam Brett Lowery is the author of The Cognitive Rampage and the creator of the framework Transrational Structural Behavior Theory, or TSBT. A retired mental health therapist, former stand-up comedian, and podcast host, he now approaches his writing as a follower of Jesus Christ.

Rebuilt in Christ reflects that change in direction: revisiting earlier ideas, correcting what no longer fits his convictions, and inviting readers to examine their lives through Scripture.
